Sip Local:

Skip Starbucks and Sip Local in the River Valley

There’s nothing wrong with grabbing a quick latte from a drive-thru—but if you’re craving something with a little more heart (and maybe a muffin to go with it), it’s time to sip local.

Let’s flutter through some of the local favorites that keep our cups—and hearts—full. 🦋

☕ Natural State Coffee Roasters (Still lovingly called “Midtown” by locals)

With multiple locations across the River Valley, Natural State Coffee Roasters is a beloved local chain that roasts its own beans, ensuring a fresh and flavorful cup every time. Their cold brew is a standout—smooth, bold, and arguably the best in town.

The Russellville North location (next to McDonald’s), Atkins, and Dardanelle spots offer convenient drive-thrus. The City Mall location doesn’t… but I’d park and walk in a rainstorm for one of their Flying Dutchmans. Each location has its own feel, the quality is always consistent and the staff are the kind that learn your name if you flutter by often enough.

🎶 Retro Roasts

Located inside Dog Ear Books in downtown Russellville, Retro Roasts is as cozy and quirky as it sounds. It’s the kind of spot where you order and end up flipping through a book you didn’t plan to buy—but totally do.

🥐 Big Cuppa

Big Cuppa is tucked inside the 500 Building at 500 W Main St in Russellville. While indoor seating is limited, they do have a convenient drive-thru around back—perfect for grabbing something on the go. It’s a quick stop more than a hangout, but the locally roasted coffee and creative seasonal sips make it worth the detour.

🥣 Bowl Time

This one started as a coffee round-up, but when thinking sip local, it’s worth pausing for this spot. If the coffee is anything like the smoothie bowls, it’s fantastic—though it’s hard to say firsthand, because the house-made granola and naturally sweetened bowls always steal the show.

🏞️ Petit Jean Coffeehouse – Morrilton

Just off the road to Petit Jean State Park, this sweet little stop in Morrilton is a favorite among hikers, travelers, and locals alike. The coffee is quality, the pastries are fresh, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly—think mountain cabin meets modern café.

It’s a great stop before or after exploring the trails. There’s no drive-thru, but it’s the kind of place you want to step inside, especially if you love a good view and a fresh brew. They also have soft-serve ice cream, so you can sip your coffee while the kids enjoy a cone!
